Picturesque Lake Forest is nestled on the shore of Lake Michigan. Incorporated way back in 1861. it has a rich history. Some of the features are commuter stops on 2 different lines to downtown Chicago, fabulous private and public schools, a top rated hospital, Lake Forest College, the training facilities for the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Fire, great shops, restaurants and loads of charm.Originally Lake Forest streets were laid out follow the natural contours of the land rather than in a grid fashion. The idea popular at the time was to have the feel of a city in the park. Open land abounds in Lake Forest with over 700 acres of open space in the city forming six nature preserves. There are 12 miles of walking trails within the city limits. Lake Forest has been named a Tree City USA for more than 25 straight years. |
Driving up and down Lake Road. Not only is it a beautiful drive but it is a historical and architectural experience. This is where many of the captains of industry lived who once shaped the history of our country and the Midwest. The Armours, the Wrigleys, the Edward Byron Smith family are a few. Lake Road is the home to wonderful examples of architects like Howard Van Doren Shaw, David Adler, Ike Colburn, and Walter Frazier.
Currently the population is just over 20,000 with most of the growth on the west end of town. Driving through Lake Forest you will see some fantastic architecture and discover its natural beauty. We are proud to be a residents of Lake Forest and would be glad to show you all that Lake Forest has to offer.
